Safeguarding Information

Many of our students have experienced adversity in their lives, either as a result of their early childhood experiences, or because of their complex needs and communication differences. The Fitzroy Academy recognises that this can impact on the ways in which our students interact with others, and how they express their emotions and feelings. Some of our students may exhibit behaviours that challenge as a way of communicating how they are feeling, or if they are upset or frustrated. 

The Fitzroy Academy uses Reflective Therapeutic Intervention (RTI) to support our students. RTI supports de-escalation as well as providing staff with the tools and understanding of how to support students to regulate, and the importance building in reflection following any periods of dysregulation. This is completed at a level appropriate to the developmental and communicative understanding of each individual student. Please refer to our Positive Behaviour Policy for further information about our behaviour support.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the Fitzroy Academy is Lydia Swinton. Mike Pearce (Head of Care) and Jake Allen (Home Manager) are both also trained DSLs. If you have any concerns, please approach one of the DSLs in the first instance and they will be happy to support.
