Curriculum Pathway 2
Curriculum Pathway 2
Semi‑Formal Curriculum.
This pathway is designed for learners with more complex learning disabilities and difficulties (CLDD). Pupils with CLDD form a distinctive group of learners who require a highly personalised curriculum, carefully adapted to reflect their individual profiles of need.
Structure of the Learning Day.
Mornings consist of structured learning activities. The length of sessions varies depending on the subject and the individual needs of the learners. Pupils may access elements of the National Curriculum; however, content is heavily adapted to ensure it is accessible and meaningful. Communication and interaction are a key focus across all learning activities.
Learners are taught in small class groups of no more than four to five pupils. During morning sessions, pupils may also participate in bespoke interventions that are tailored to their individual needs.
Afternoons focus on the development of life skills, project‑based learning, and experiential activities. Learning may take place on‑site or off‑site and can include activities such as swimming, riding, shopping. Etc.
Learners on this pathway may present with one or more of the following characteristics:
- Combined and layered needs.
- Challenges with sustaining good mental health.
- Significant difficulties with social relationships.
- Behaviours that may present challenges to themselves or others in a range of settings.
- Physical, medical, or sensory needs.
- Impaired or limited communication.
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD.)
- Significantly impacted cognitive ability.
