Transitions

Young people join the Henslow and Evolution school at any point during the academic year, in fact we are far more used to receiving students during term time than at the start of the academic year. The primary school has a flexible approach to timetable planning and arrangements can be made to suit any new child.

The Henslow and Evolution School always seeks to return students to mainstream educational provision wherever this is the most appropriate pathway for the individual learner. In the primary school this may be a transition to a mainstream primary when the child is ready or a transition into a secondary school for the start of Year 7.

The school is keen to receive as much information as possible about new students, in order that the child does not have to re-tell their story and so that they receive bespoke, targeted support from the outset.

Where students remain with the Henslow and Evolution School from Year 6 into Year 7, bespoke transition programmes are put into place, usually involving weekly visits to the secondary site throughout the summer term. This gives our learners the best possible opportunity to build strong working relationships in preparation for the move to the secondary provision.
