Welcome to The Fitzroy Academy

Welcome to The Fitzroy Academy Website

The Fitzroy Academy is an Independent Special Needs School providing high-quality personalised education for students with a range of learning needs including Autism, Learning Disabilities, and associated social, emotional, mental health needs. Some children and young people may have histories of trauma and attachment difficulties.

Our approach is child-centred and personalised to meet the needs of individual students in a nurturing and sensitive environment. We believe that every child and young person has the right to an education that equips them for future independence, learning and life and as such we set ambitious, yet realistic targets for all our children and young people.

Our well qualified, experienced and passionate staff team work together to make our school a successful and happy community. We offer a rich, varied and stimulating curriculum, which includes academic and creative studies as well as opportunities for outdoor learning and the development of independent living skills. The facilities on site support the broad and balanced curriculum and include a gym, drama studio and food technology room as well as a fully functioning art room. There are also opportunities for outdoor learning in the beautiful grounds and our own wooded area on site.  Timetables are individualised and tailored to ensure children and young people are making progress and receiving the required levels of both educational and therapeutic input. All students have access to support offered by the therapy team who are based on our site.

As a new school, we have ambitious plans to develop over the next 12 months. The school supports a wide range of national curriculum topics for the students, underpinned by a whole school approach to the emotional well-being and preparation for adulthood of each student. In addition to the widening of the curriculum offer over the coming year, we are also aiming to develop the wooded area to allow for outdoor learning and Forest School and build local links for opportunities for work experience taking individual interests into account. Students in Key Stage 4/5 will have access to formal qualifications at various levels depending on their needs and interests.

The school offers a small and nurturing environment allowing students to thrive and achieve their full potential. We understand that success may look different for individual students. This will be recognised and individual achievements rewarded. Students will be encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities that enrich their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development enhanced by school trips, workshops, charitable work as well as PSHE lessons.
